Norwegatlan‎‎

Dear Manoro82,

We got a request for speedy deletion of Norwegatlan, made by an editor using an IP-address. The reason given was "No Nahuatl languages", which does not sound like an valid argument for speedy deletion, so I have removed the request. A normal proposal to delete with clearly stated reasons would still remain a possibility. In light of the existing pages Tlacetililli Hueyitlahtohcayotl and tlanitlālpantlahtōlli I expect some objections against such a proposal. A more constructive approach may be to define a set of names of countries and languages that can be used in at least one major Nahuan language. If this is not possible, the present approach, using Nahuatl (nah) as a macrolanguage for these cases looks like a reasonable solution, because forms like these are desirable for translation purposes, just like several of the Nahuan languages have Dutch names that we have created for similar reasons. Dear MarcoSwart; now, all countries of the world are named as in Spanish language for Nahuan languages and other languages spoken in Mexico. In Classical Nahuatl was named in Latin language (Lusitania, Hispania, Norvegia, Belgium, Mauritania or Austria) or Spanish language (Alemania, Cuba, Francia, China or Italia), other cases were named with Nahuatl sounds as Inglatera (England), Pelon (Peru) and Xapon (Japan). Some cases are Nahuatl languages as Caxtillan (Spain), Teutontlalpan (Germany), Gallitlalpan (France), Helenoyan (Greece), Cuauhtemallan (Guatemala), Cozcatlan (El Salvador), Nicanahuac, Copan (Cuba) and Mexihco (Mexico). So only for klassiek Nahuatl there are some specific names of countries and languages available?

"Belgium" is an interesting example, as the present-day states of Belgium and The Netherlands only exist since 1830. In the 16th century it probably referred to the Low Countries taken together.

When internationalizing software there is a necessity to translate names of all countries and languages. From a linguistic point of view it is probably not correct to attribute these partial translations to one of the Nahuan languages and as you state there is no standard Nahuatl either. In cases like these we have used the code for the macro language as a placeholder for a future standard language and sometimes even as a placeholder until someone is able to attribute a more specific language code to the word in question. Maybe it would be useful to put an explanation on the category pages of the macro languages we use this way. Numbers in Classical Nahuatl

It would be really helpful if you would just correct {{nci-telw}} completely. Once that's done, I can use a bot to correct, (re-)move or create the pages involved accordingly. The way you moved pages now would result in redirects (which are against WikiWoordenboek policy) or red links in the template (when we remove the redirects).

My guess was that the change is mainly removing the macrons. So I have put an version without macrons between <noinclude>-tags in the template below the present text. Could you check whether the information in that part is correct? If there are still mistakes, please correct them. When you have checked the new text, we can change the template, correct the remaining old pages, remove the redirects and add the missing pages.
