Here's how Guertjens' Marindineesch-Nederlandsch Woordenboek (1933: 311) describes Marind Soté, which is also glossed as "niboeng": "Soté of waroe, een palmsoort. De bloemscheede wordt veel gebruikt om allerlei zaken in te pakken, ook als men op stap gaat. Ook maakt men er trogjes van sagomeel te kneden."Proabivouac 20 aug 2009 09:18 (CEST)
- How do we know that this word is /niˈbuŋ/ rather than /ˈnibuŋ/? Well, in Indonesian words have stress on the final syllable, and Indonesian Dutch/colonial Dutch (mostly) used stress in loanwords from the native languages with original stress. One of the few words of Indonesian origin that I use in daily life is "senang", and that too is prenounced with final stress: /səˈnɑŋ/. So it seems the most logical pattern to me. I don't have much contact with Indo people at the moment, so I can't ask them. If you think it is wrong or a premature conclusion you can remove the stress sign.
