Well, as I understand things (note! I just did a brief background research to see what was going on, I have no particular knowledge about aircraft) a segelflygplan is a kind of glidflygplan which has been designed to have as good soaring ability as possible, while glidflygplan also includes military gliders and the like, and also the space shuttle is considered to work as a glidflygplan on its way down (not as a segelflygplan). I don't say the removal was wrong, I don't know enough Dutch to evaluate that, I'm just saying that the word glidflygplan exists, and if the explanation there was wrong, well... Perhaps there is then another Dutch word which more closely corresponds to glidflygplan? If so, I could even correct the interwiki link on wikipedia... :) \Mike 23 mei 2008 18:06 (CEST)
- Hi Mike, thanks for your question. I thought (also according to my Swedish dictionary) that the translation segelflygplan was a better translation than glidflygplan, but correct me if I'm wrong, I know very little Swedish, I've only checked my dictionary! If you think the words in Swedish are practically the same, I'll put the translation back. If glidflygplan is a good translation, could you also give me the gender of the word (neuter o or common g). - Hi, Tvdm. Well, if you only go by the definition, as given here, something like an "unmotorized" aircraft, glidflygplan would be the better translation as it is the more general one. However, as segelflygplan is the vastly (as I understand it) much more common (in number of crafts) kind of glidflygplan, that word is in more common use, and more likely to make it to most dictionaries. So, if you don't mind, I'll add "glidflygplan" again, but defer to the individual entries to explain the difference. And that explanation would have to wait for someone with much better grasp of both aircrafts and Dutch than I can muster :) \Mike 23 mei 2008 18:41 (CEST)
