Hello, first apologize me to speak english. Is this word "vinkvakje" a synonym of selectievakje (see WP)? I also try to find some translation of this word; is it checkbox in english and case à cocher in french? Thanks. Pamputt 17 feb 2011 10:23 (CET)
Yes, selectievakje or keuzevakje are also used as synonyms. Selectievakje is in fact the most common one. Keuzevakje is a bit ambiguous because keuzevak means something else (an elective course in a curriculum). It is also known as ‘aanvinkvakje’. Using ‘keuzevakje’ is a bad idea because it might lead to confusion with ‘keuzerondje’ which is called ‘option button’ or ‘radio button’ in English.
Another word for the same thing is ‘aankruisvakje’. ‘Kruis’ means ‘cross’ - before Windows 95 checkboxes used an X rather than a V shape.
