English: A. Hosper, Parkstad Almere, circa 1985. Collectie NAi, HOSP t9-1
NAI Collection, HOSP t9-1
Almere is a modern city in Southern Flevoland. It was conceived together with its surrounding landscape as an expansive ‘park city’, giving Almere’s inhabitants access to spacious recreation areas in the close proximity. Here the landscape architect Hosper presents the landscape between Almere-Haven coastal development and Almere-Stad urban core. The parcels of land for open landscape and recreation are represented abstractly, because their precise use was not yet decided. Depending on future wishes these spaces can be used for parks, sports fields or other forms of recreation. Almere is the embodiment of a time-honoured insight with regard to greenery in and around the city, namely that greenery, parks and water purify the air, produce oxygen, have a positive effect on the experience of the surroundings and aid relaxation.
